Breakfast Spread recipes for Each Ayurveda Dosha

ayurveda breakfast spread ideas for each dosha

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day (haven’t you heard?) so I wanted to put together a post about different breakfast spreads. My idea behind this post is that there is a different breakfast spread for each dosha type – so you can choose one that suits your dosha and constitution.

Vata Breakfast Spread

This spread is all about sweetness. The sweet vegetables and the ghee in this breakfast spread will help to pacify the vata dosha. Because people of a vata constitution benefit from warm foods, I recommend trying this on warm toast, or warm pancakes. As with all these breakfast spreads, there is only one step to making them – just pop them all in a blender and blitz until you have a smooth paste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 large avocado
  • 4 teaspoons of ghee
  • 2 tablespoons of cashews (chopped up)
  • 2-3 beetroots (to taste) – finely chopped or grated
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 4 tablespoons of basil
  • Pinch of pepper

Kapha Breakfast Spread

Next on my list of dosha breakfast spreads, it’s my Kapha spread. The bitter salad leaves and the touch of spice in this recipe will help to pacify Kapha. Fresh ginger is especially helpful for kapha types, so I’ve added some into this recipe too. If you have access to yeast-free bread, that is what I would enjoy this breakfast spread with (on warm toast). Same instructions for making – just blend the ingredients all up together!

Ingredients:

  • Two handfuls (about 70g) of rocket
  • Half a white onion
  • 1 avocado
  • 2 teaspoons of pumpkins seeds
  • 2 teaspoons of ghee
  • Pinch of Chilli power
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Chipotle Paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • 3 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Pitta Breakfast Spread

This recipe is full of lots of cooling ingredients, to help cool and balance pitta’s hot, sharp, and intense nature. The inclusion of cucumber and coconut is to help give a cooling effect to this spread, and the bitter rocket will also help to pacify the pitta dosha too. Instead of eating this spread with warm toast, let the toast cool down, or use a cold arabic-style flatbread (and dip instead of spread).

Again, to make the spread, just pop all the ingredients into a blender and blitz up until you have a spreadable paste.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cucumber (deseeded, peeled, grated – then squeeze excess water out before adding to blender)
  • 1 avocado
  • Handful of rocket
  • 4 teaspoons of coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons of sunflower seeds
  • Handful of chopped mint
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Half a cup of garden peas
  • Lemon juice (to taste – stir this in at the end after blending)

Each spread is designed and tailored to pacify a particular dosha type, so it’s important to understand your dosha before choosing which spread to make. If you haven’t already taken you dosha test, you can learn about dosha tests here.
